M WOODS is pleased to announce the first museum solo exhibition of American artist Austin Lee (b. 1983) in our M WOODS Hutong museum, and the first museum exhibition in Asia of late Belgian painter Raoul De Keyser (1930-2012) in our M WOODS 798 location, opening in March 2020.
M WOODS Hutong
The exhibition Austin Lee: Human Naturewill be Lee’s largest and most comprehensive exhibition
to date and includes three new major commissioned works: a public sculpture
commission and two large-scale installations. Reflecting Lee’s creative
process of producing artworks initially in virtual reality and later
materialising them as paintings, installations and sculptures, the exhibition
moves between the spheres of virtual reality and the signs and symbols that Lee
observes in the natural world, to create a new experiential unity between the
two.

The
major solo exhibition Remark is conceived as an alternative survey
following his recent retrospective exhibition, which was co-organized by
Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich, and the Municipal Museum of Contemporary Art
(S.M.A.K.) in Ghent in 2018/19. Guest curated by Martin Germann, Remark contains
paintings and works on paper from all periods of the artists’ oeuvre. This
survey exhibition departs from moments of a historically crucial and enigmatic ensemble of
painterly objects posthumously entitled “The Last Wall” (2012), produced during
the last month of De Keysers’ life. In addition to artworks not previously
displayed, the exhibition includes a dedicated gallery to the speculative
dialogue between De Keyser’s works and antique Chinese artefacts from the M
WOOD’s collection.
The exhibition Raoul De Keyser: Remark is supported by Zeno X Gallery/Antwerp, David Zwirner, and the Family De Keyser.
